At GG's Alpaca Farm, regenerative farming means caring for the land, the water, and our alpacas so the farm can stay healthy for years to come. We are a family alpaca farm with Native American women involved in the business, rooted in Kansas and Missouri, and we share that story through our apparel brand, GG's Fleece.

Regenerative practices are not a slogan for us. They are everyday choices: how we move animals, how we protect soil and water, and how we treat the herd with respect.

What “regenerative” means here

In plain language, regenerative farming is about leaving the land better than we found it—or at least giving it a real chance to recover and stay productive. On an alpaca farm, that usually shows up in three places:

How animals graze (so pastures can rest and regrow)
How soil and water are protected (so the ground stays living and resilient)
How animals are cared for (so welfare and stewardship go together)

Alpaca fiber itself fits a sustainable story well: it is a natural, renewable fiber known for softness, warmth, and durability. Our farm work and our apparel brand both point customers toward clothing that feels good and aligns with more thoughtful choices.

Rotational grazing

We practice rotational grazing: moving alpacas through pastures in a planned way so no single paddock is overused.

Why it matters:

Pastures get time to rest and regrow.
Plants can keep stronger root systems, which helps hold soil in place.
Animals get fresh forage instead of grazing the same ground down to bare spots.
The herd’s padded feet and gentle grazing style pair well with careful pasture management.

You do not need a science degree to understand the idea: graze, rest, recover, repeat. That rhythm is one of the simplest regenerative tools a livestock farm can use.

Soil and water stewardship

Healthy soil and clean water are the farm’s foundation. Our stewardship focus includes:

Protecting ground cover so soil is less exposed to wind and runoff.
Avoiding unnecessary disturbance of pastures when we can.
Watching how water moves across the land—keeping moisture where plants need it and reducing erosion where we can.
Choosing lower-impact approaches where practical, including natural pest-management thinking and eco-conscious farm infrastructure as we grow.

Publicly, our team has described sustainable grazing and regenerative work across roughly 400 acres of farmland. We share that figure carefully and update it if the footprint changes—what matters most is the practice, not the hype.

Animal welfare

Regenerative farming only works if the animals are well. At GG's Alpaca Farm, welfare means:

Space to move and graze as a herd
Shelter, clean water, and attentive daily care
Handling that respects the animals during shearing and routine farm work
A family approach: we started with a love of camelids (our story begins with our llama Montana and grew into alpacas), and that care still guides us
